The Michigan Vietnam Memorial was officially dedicated as a State Memorial on July 15, 1990 at Island Park in Mount Pleasant, Michigan.  National, state and local dignitaries attended the ceremonies honoring Michigan’s war dead and those still listed as Missing in Action.  Surviving family members and veterans were acknowledged. The Memorial was rededicated in September of 1994 with the addition of the bronze statue “War Cry.”

The Michigan Vietnam Memorial began as a project by the Vietnam Veterans chapter in Mt. Pleasant. The vets constructed a walk bridge connecting the main park to the Picken’s ball fields. With the help of volunteers and donations, these veterans built a flag gallery and a series of brick monuments with plaques that bear the names of all Michigan servicemen and one servicewoman who were killed in Vietnam or are still listed as Missing in Action. A one star designation next to the name indicates * Missing in Action. Double stars next to the name indicates **Died in Captivity. An information building was added to the site in 1991 where visitors can acquire information about the Memorial and Vietnam. Island Park is located at the corner of Main and Lincoln in downtown Mt. Pleasant.
